Lets Dream! What would be a Dream Feature for any software you're use for Accounting?

Before Google Docs, we emailed “final_v3” back and forth. Here’s the feature that could do the same thing for your books — and I want you to help me pick it.

The Google Docs Revolution

Think back to how documents worked before Google Docs. You wrote something, saved it, attached it to an email, and sent it off. Someone edited it, renamed it “proposal_final_v2,” and sent it back. Then “final_FINAL.” Then “final_use_this_one.” You merged changes by hand. You lost work when your laptop died. That was just… how it was.

Then Google Docs shipped live multiplayer editing and autosave. And here’s the thing nobody remembers: we never asked for it. No one filed a support ticket demanding real-time collaboration. But the moment we had it, the old way felt broken. That’s what a true dream feature does — it doesn’t answer a request, it resets the standard.

Accounting in 2005

I think accounting is standing exactly where documents were in 2005. Right now, so much of the work is still shuffling files. Chasing clients for the receipt. Re-keying invoices. The month-end scramble to reconcile. The mild panic when someone asks “can you pull the backup for this transaction?” We’ve accepted it as just… how it is.

What is Your Dream Feature?

But I don’t want to be the person guessing what the real dream feature is for people who do this work every day. The best product ideas almost never come from inside the building — they come from the person on their third client call of the day thinking “I wish this thing could just…”

So that’s my ask: If dodocs could do one magical thing for your firm — however impossible it sounds today — what would it be?

Don’t self-edit. Don’t worry about whether it’s technically feasible. “Books that explain themselves to my client so I stop answering the same three questions every month.” “A tool that tells me which clients are about to churn before they do.” “Something that just knows when a vendor changed their invoice format.” All fair game.
